Jun Fang received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in 2003 and 2006, respectively. And he received the Ph.D. degree in computer science and technology from Tsinghua University in 2013. He joined the  School of Information and Software Engineering (SISE) at UESTC in 2013. After that he spent one year in EECS department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville as a visiting scholar in 2018. He is currently a assistant professor at the SISE. His research interests include the Crowd and Multi-agent Simulation, Pedestrian and Traffic Dynamics and Computational Swarm Intelligence. He has published several journal and conference papers in  Physica A, Communications in Theoretical Physics, International Journal of Modern Physics C, etc. He is presiding over a project supported by the Fundamental Research Funds for Central Universities (ZYGX2013J075). Besides, he has been involved in a research plan for interdisciplinary development of UESTC (Y03111023901014007) and a national natural science fund of China (NSFC-61503059).


Area of Interest:

  1. Simulation of Real and Virtual Pedestrian and Traffic Dynamics

    I am interested in the movement and evacuation of a massive crowd in some complex environment, such as a building, factory and station. The subjects of motor traffic are also in my research range. I have focused on the microscopic models and mainly studied the cellular automata and multi-agent simulation. Moreover, I am trying to extend these models to a general modeling framework for self-driven multi-particle systems.

  2. Computational Swarm Intelligence for Model Optimization

    The theory and algorithms of computational swarm intelligence also belong to my research field, including the particle swarm algorithm, ant colony algorithm, fish swarm algorithm,etc. Recently I have found their application in the modeling and simulation of crowd dynamics. Besides the parameter calibration and model optimization, they have been used to design the models or algorithms themselves. Some mind of simulating agents’ movement or evacuation is inspired by the flocking behavior from some creature groups.
